Info/photo's on Swiss military PAPI installations.. - VACC-SAG Forum

Hiya,

For my Meiringen scenery i am looking for info on the PAPI systems used by the swiss airforce at it's bases.

They seem not to be normal PAPI's, for example they are situatie just before or at the threshold and not like a normal PAPI at the touchdown point. Also the 4 lights seems to be shifted slightly per pair.

To explain what i mean a diagram below of Sion airbase/airport, which for runway got both a normal PAPI and a military one at rwy 25:

Any info/photo's or suggestion would be greatly appriciated!

Hi

I'm not 100% sure about that, but they're placed there, to give the pilots guidance in the final approach (during the aiming point is somewhere before the threshold). And they have a operational range of 2000m to 300m from the threshold. So pilots should use it at a reference up to 300m to the RWY, then flairing and touchdown before the yellow line should be done by visual reference to the RWY...

But they're just normal PAPIs with 4° Glidepath.
