| ![]() Dear pilots, VATSIM Russia (VATRUS) is proud to announce a new Weekly Event in Moscow (Sheremetyevo Airport [UUEE]), the capital of Russia Federation. We start up this Event this Saturday [24.02.07 1800-2100 UTC]. Lot's of foreign and VATRUS pilots are expected to visit us today in the most busiest Moscow airport - Sheremetyevo [UUEE]. Qualified staff and friendly ATC will be glad to meet you in Russia. So, don't miss this great oppotunity to visit Moscow and take pleasure from flying in Russia! If you want to join us, please make sure you are totally understand all features of Russia ATC. Be ready to work in METERS leveling system, including all other special procedures. There are some information about metric leveling, QFE etc. The main problem for you is of course that FL, altitudes, airspeeds, wind speeds and altimeter settings are given in units you are not using during others flights as, for example, in Europe. And we are using QFE, not QNH. The main differences are: FL and altitudes are given in meters: “Fast air 354, descend FL three thousand niner hundred meters” note: sometimes phrase can be without words "Flight level"..for example: "Fast air 345, climb two thousand one hundred meters" or "Fast air 345, climb level two thousand one hundred meters" Wind speed are given in meters per second: “Fast air 345, wind 200 5metrs per second, line-up RW 25R” But altimeter instructions and airspeed instructions are given in common for you units: “Fast air 345, reduce you airspeed to one eight zero knots, descend niner hundred meter, QFE 996” Vertical leveling: FL for eastbound (Hm 0°-179°) flights: 900, 1500, 2100, 2700, 3300, 3900, 4500, 5100, 5700, 6300, 6900, 7500, 8100, 9100, 10100, 11100, 12100, 14100 FL for westbound (Hm 180°-359°) flights: 1200, 1800, 2400, 3000, 3600, 4200, 4800, 5400, 6000, 6600, 7200, 7800, 8600, 9600, 10600, 11600, 13100, 15100 To convert meter FL to feet FL you can use this table: http://www.vatrus.net.ru/refs/metric_leveling.xhtml or this http://www.vatrus.net.ru/refs/metric_leveling.pdf QFE and QNH When you are passing transition level you usually set QNH on your altimeter. We use not QNH(altitude above mean sea level, AMSL) but QFE(height above ground level, AGL). Your altimeter shows "0", but not airport elevation, when you are standing on runway and using QFE. Flightplan: When you are flying to Moscow from central Europe your inbound point usually is RATIN. So I have took it as example. You should mark in your FP that you a going to use metric vertical leveling system this way: …UN858 RATIN/M082S1010… this means that you will pass RATIN at metric FL 10100 with speed 0.82 Mach RATIN/N470S1010 – RATIN at 10100 meters with ground speed 470 knots. And RATIN/N470F340 – when you are leaving Russian airspace. (GS=470knots, FL 340) Some quick tips: 1MPS = 1.94KT 1KNOT(NM) = 1.852 KM/H(KM) 900m = 3900 ft 600m = 1960 ft von Artur Abadjan
