Yes we are still alive up here in Iceland and we want to invite all of you to come and enjoy an exciting event with full ATC coverage over Iceland and a fully staffed Keflavik International Airport (BIKF). Keflavik Airport was built by the US Army during WWII and was considered a valuable stop-over link between USA and Europe and during the Cold War its importance was at the highest. With this event we would like to pay our respects to the US soldiers that have defended our country for over 60 years, and at the same time celebrate that Keflavik Airport is now our own.

I know that such an event means a lot of work and stress for the controllers, BUT:
  • After receiving clearance from Delivery I requested pushback from Ground according to the procedures on the event site. First question from Ground was if I have already received the clearance from Delivery . I said yes and then Ground wanted to send me to the wrong runway. After correcting the runway then the new taxi instructions were wrong...
  • Initial climb altitude was FL 270. After the handover from Tower to Approach he told me very unfriendly "FL 230". After handover to Domestic Control again very unfriendly "FL 270".
  • After handover to Reykjavik Control first instruction "maintain FL 270", added by a remark that the handover was 10 minutes ago . Then I asked for repeating the remark - the answer was "Climb FL 370, disregard the remark"
  • Later on Reykjavik Control 132.20 stopped radar service without any announcement.
  • Then I asked Reykjavik Domestic Control 119.70 via PM if I should go back to his frequency, or if I should switch to Unicom -> no answer
  • After a couple of minutes I tuned again 119.70 and told him via text that I'm back on his frequency -> no answer
  • Then after 15 minutes the handover to Unicom
  • No hallo and no goodbye from any of the controllers
Sorry, but even as a Newbie I saw bigger events where the controllers were friendly to the pilots and where there wasn't such a confusion between the several ATC stations...
I was DLH6TC from BIKF to EDDL.

Ich flog von Frankfurt nach BIKF, zunächst sah es gut aus wie der Controller (132.20) den Flugverkehrs aufteilte, aber dann das gleiche wie bei Dir.

Nachdem ich am letzten Clearancepunkt ins Holding gegangen bin, aber Domestic Control meine Textmeldungen irgendwie nicht beachtete, hab ich den Flug beendet. Schade, hätte ein netter Anflug werden können.
